dust jacket some wears in corners, slight bend in top outside cover corner, red cloth board, gold embossed front and spine, 5.25” wide x 8” tall,165 pages - These Indian stories, first published in the Vancouver Daily Province in 1910. The original first edition was privately printed in Vancouver in 1911 (1000 copies), and it sold out right away. One of the best-known books of Canadian Mohawk author E. Pauline Johnson, who was no doubt the best-known female North American Indian writer of the first half of the 20th century, and whose books continue to sell.

315) THE PROSE WORKS OF HENRY WADSWORTH LONGFELLOW, by Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth - stated Author’s Edition “This Edition contains not only every poem printd in any other Edition issued in England, but 86 Copyright Poems which can only be found in the Author’s Copyright Edition, published by George Routledge & Sons, Broadway, Ludgate Hill.”,  not dated but inside right inscription 1895 probably 1850+, 506 pp plus 1 pg of Routledge’s Ads, end of pg 506 states “Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson and Co. London and Edinburgh”, hard cover burgundy boards with stamped spine and gold gilt lettering, 6 black & white plates with tissue guard at the title page, all pages red-lined, marbled page edges, good to very good condition with some bumping on edged and corners but well cared for and rarely read some pulling away on inside back at spine but all pages tight and intact, one beautifully penned dedication/inscription on inside front right dated 1895 no other markings tight and clean, 506+ pp, 5” x 7.25” tall – a rare beautiful book!

 

316) The Poetical Works of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ,by Longfellow, Henry Wadsworth, “Ravenswood Edition”, Winnipeg CLARK CROS. & Co., inside back page states “printed by Morris & Gibb Limited Edinburgh”, not dated turn of the century, Full-Leather burgundy cover with gold fine bible-like page edges with gold spine lettering and stamping gilt initial/logo on front cover, gold/ gilt background endpages front and back with burgundy leave decoration, good to very good condition some slight edgewear top and bottom of spine, one name/inscription on inside below title page but no other markings clean and tight, 563 pp, 5” x 7.25” tall – bible like presentation, a beautiful rare century old book!

 

317) THE POETICAL WORKS OF ROBERT BURNS with Explanatory Glossary, Notes, Memoir, etc. by ROBERT BURNS, published 1898 by London Frederick Warne, 1898, back page bottom states printed by Morrison and Gibb Limited, Edinburgh, black leaf motif-stamped leather with gold guilt BURNS name on front and spine, gold gilt page edges with rounded corners, good condition with some edge wear and rubbing on cover spine top and bottom, single name “Earlmond” inscribed on inside right inscription and 2 pencil price markings but no other marks, 614 pp, 5” x 7” tall – nice copy.

 

318) The Poetical Works Of Wordsworth with Memoir, Explanatory Notes, &c. by William Wordsworth, published by London Frederick Warne, turn of the century, back page bottom states printed by Printed by Ballantyne, Hanson & Co. Edinburgh & London, soft red leather cover with gilt embossed lettering on front & spine, rounded corners, gilt band around edges, gilt decorative leaf endpages front and back, ribbon marker, some edge wear but a beautiful book showing little or no read condition, one inscription on inside right first title page, no dates but turn of the century, 628 pp, 5” x 7” tall – a beautiful copy.

 

319) SELECTED POEMS By GEORGE MEREDITH, London: Constable, March 1914, in fine dark red full morocco binding with gilt floral/leaf decoration, some sunning and fading on outside back cover and some slight spine edge wear otherwise a tight very nice copy looking like never-read condition with ribbon marker in original place, one inscription on each of inside right and next title page at top no other markings clean and very tight, 245 pp, 4.75” x 6.75” tall – beautiful edition

 

320) TALES FROM SHAKESPEARE by CHARLES AND MARY LAMB, with Illustrations in Color (see list below), London and Glasgow Collins’ Clear-Type Press, not dated but turn of the century, full maroon textured leather with gilt lettering and design to spine, edges gilt, maroon endpapers, fair to good condition with some edge wear and spine wear and tear and some sunning/staining on back cover, no inscription/markings very clean tight spine copy with ribbon marker intact, back cover is off but all pages intact and tight except for last page which is loose and at the bottom states in pencil 487 on the line above Collins’ Clear-Type Press, London and Glasgow, 424  pp, 4” x 6” tall- SIX beautiful color plates; the Parting Scene in Romeo and Juliet, Ariel’s dream of freedom The Tempest, The Church Scene (“much ado about Nothing”), double page of Petruchio brings home his bride (“The Taming if the Shrew”), Orsino Duke of Illyria (“Twelfth Night”).
